Getting Started with AudiPals

Setup guide for Last.fm login, activity linkage, and platform compatibility

AudiPals uses Last.fm as the listening signal layer. AudiPals does not provide in-app scrobbling. Your listening appears in AudiPals when it is successfully sent to Last.fm via native service integrations or third-party tools.

Quick Start

1

Create your account

Sign up with an email address and password, or use Continue with Last.fm to sign in directly with your Last.fm account. Google sign-in is also available.

If you register with email, check your inbox for a verification link. Your password must include uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a special character.

2

Choose a username

Pick a username that is unique to AudiPals. Usernames can include letters (upper or lower case), numbers, underscores, and hyphens. You can change your username later in Settings.

If you sign in with Last.fm and your Last.fm username is already taken on AudiPals, you will be prompted to choose an alternative.

3

Connect Last.fm

AudiPals uses Last.fm as its listening data source. Sign in with Last.fm during registration, or enter your Last.fm username in the onboarding flow inside the app.

4

Set up Last.fm activity sources for your devices

Use the compatibility matrix below to choose the right scrobbling method for Android, iOS, desktop, and web players.

Compatibility Matrix

Use this table to check how listening data can reach Last.fm, then appear in AudiPals.

Music app Android iOS Desktop / Web Recommended setup
Spotify Supported Supported Supported Connect Spotify to Last.fm directly in Spotify's settings.
Apple Music Supported via scrobbler Supported via Last.fm app Supported via Last.fm desktop scrobbler Use the official Last.fm app on iOS and the Last.fm desktop scrobbler on Mac/PC.
YouTube Music Supported via Pano Scrobbler or Scrobble for Last.fm Not supported for reliable Last.fm scrobbling Supported with Web Scrobbler extension Android: use Pano Scrobbler or Scrobble for Last.fm. iOS: no reliable path for YouTube Music to appear in AudiPals.
Tidal Supported Supported Supported Use Tidal's built-in Last.fm integration where available.
Deezer Supported Limited by app support Supported Use native Last.fm integration or a compatible scrobbler fallback.
Other players (SoundCloud, Amazon Music, etc.) Usually supported via scrobbler Mixed support Often supported via Web Scrobbler or desktop app Pick the method that can reliably send scrobbles to Last.fm.

Android note: Most Android music apps publish a media notification that third-party scrobblers can use to detect playback. See the Android scrobbling section below for recommended apps.

Why this matters on iOS: iOS limits background access to playback data from some third-party apps. If a listening app does not expose enough playback information to a scrobbler, Last.fm cannot receive the event, so AudiPals has nothing to display.

Android Last.fm Options

Most Android music apps publish a media-style notification. Third-party scrobblers read these notifications to detect what you are playing and submit scrobbles to Last.fm. Two well-regarded options are:

Spotify users: Spotify has a built-in Last.fm connection. Go to Spotify Settings -> Connect to Last.fm and sign in. No third-party tool needed.
Important: Do not run multiple scrobblers at once for the same playback source. This can create duplicate scrobbles in Last.fm.

iOS Setup

  1. Install the official Last.fm app from the App Store.
  2. Sign in with your Last.fm account.
  3. Grant Apple Music permissions where prompted.
  4. Use compatible iOS music sources that can be scrobbled to Last.fm.

For YouTube Music on iOS, reliable scrobbling is currently not supported, which means those plays typically cannot be shown in AudiPals.

Verify Last.fm Activity

  1. Play a track long enough to meet Last.fm scrobble thresholds (50% of track length or 4 minutes, whichever comes first).
  2. Check last.fm/user/YOUR-USERNAME for recent track updates.
  3. If it appears on Last.fm, it should appear in AudiPals shortly after refresh.

Feed Features

Once you and a friend are connected, the home feed shows what they are currently playing or recently listened to. Here is what you can do from the feed.

Troubleshooting

Scrobbles are missing in AudiPals

  • Confirm they appear first on Last.fm.
  • Ensure AudiPals is connected to the correct Last.fm account.
  • Refresh Home and wait 1 to 2 minutes for propagation.

My third-party tool is not capturing tracks on Android

  • Confirm the third-party app is running and has the required permissions.
  • Check that only one scrobbler is enabled for the same music app to avoid conflicts.
  • Consult the scrobbler app's own help or settings — Pano Scrobbler and Scrobble for Last.fm both have in-app troubleshooting.

A friend reacted or voted many times but I only see one notification

This is expected. AudiPals groups similar reactions and votes from the same friend into one summary item.

iOS tracks from YouTube Music do not appear

This is expected in many cases due to iOS playback visibility restrictions for third-party apps. Use a supported source path instead.

I did not receive a verification email

Check your spam or junk folder. If it is not there, open AudiPals, go to Settings, and use the Resend link next to the "Email not verified" notice. Make sure the email address on your account is correct.

Tapping a track opens a web search instead of my music app

Make sure you have set a preferred player in Settings. Also confirm the app is installed on your device — AudiPals tries to open the app first, but falls back to a web search if the app is not found.

My friend cannot see my listening activity

Check that Privacy mode is not enabled on the home screen. Also confirm you and the friend have both accepted each other's friend requests, and that your Last.fm account is connected and receiving scrobbles.
