Getting Started with AudiPals
On this page
Quick Start
Create your account
Sign up with an email address and password, or use Continue with Last.fm to sign in directly with your Last.fm account. Google sign-in is also available.
If you register with email, check your inbox for a verification link. Your password must include uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a special character.
Choose a username
Pick a username that is unique to AudiPals. Usernames can include letters (upper or lower case), numbers, underscores, and hyphens. You can change your username later in Settings.
If you sign in with Last.fm and your Last.fm username is already taken on AudiPals, you will be prompted to choose an alternative.
Connect Last.fm
AudiPals uses Last.fm as its listening data source. Sign in with Last.fm during registration, or enter your Last.fm username in the onboarding flow inside the app.
Set up Last.fm activity sources for your devices
Use the compatibility matrix below to choose the right scrobbling method for Android, iOS, desktop, and web players.
Compatibility Matrix
Use this table to check how listening data can reach Last.fm, then appear in AudiPals.
| Music app | Android | iOS | Desktop / Web | Recommended setup |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify | Supported | Supported | Supported | Connect Spotify to Last.fm directly in Spotify's settings. |
| Apple Music | Supported via scrobbler | Supported via Last.fm app | Supported via Last.fm desktop scrobbler | Use the official Last.fm app on iOS and the Last.fm desktop scrobbler on Mac/PC. |
| YouTube Music | Supported via Pano Scrobbler or Scrobble for Last.fm | Not supported for reliable Last.fm scrobbling | Supported with Web Scrobbler extension | Android: use Pano Scrobbler or Scrobble for Last.fm. iOS: no reliable path for YouTube Music to appear in AudiPals. |
| Tidal | Supported | Supported | Supported | Use Tidal's built-in Last.fm integration where available. |
| Deezer | Supported | Limited by app support | Supported | Use native Last.fm integration or a compatible scrobbler fallback. |
| Other players (SoundCloud, Amazon Music, etc.) | Usually supported via scrobbler | Mixed support | Often supported via Web Scrobbler or desktop app | Pick the method that can reliably send scrobbles to Last.fm. |
Android note: Most Android music apps publish a media notification that third-party scrobblers can use to detect playback. See the Android scrobbling section below for recommended apps.
Why this matters on iOS: iOS limits background access to playback data from some third-party apps. If a listening app does not expose enough playback information to a scrobbler, Last.fm cannot receive the event, so AudiPals has nothing to display.
Android Last.fm Options
Most Android music apps publish a media-style notification. Third-party scrobblers read these notifications to detect what you are playing and submit scrobbles to Last.fm. Two well-regarded options are:
- Pano Scrobbler — Available on Google Play. Supports most Android music apps. Connect with your Last.fm account directly in the app.
- Scrobble for Last.fm (Simple Scrobbler) — Available on Google Play. A lightweight alternative with a similar approach.
iOS Setup
- Install the official Last.fm app from the App Store.
- Sign in with your Last.fm account.
- Grant Apple Music permissions where prompted.
- Use compatible iOS music sources that can be scrobbled to Last.fm.
For YouTube Music on iOS, reliable scrobbling is currently not supported, which means those plays typically cannot be shown in AudiPals.
Desktop and Web Setup
Desktop
- Install the Last.fm desktop scrobbler from Last.fm's site.
- Sign in with your Last.fm account.
- Play music in supported desktop players and verify scrobbles on your Last.fm profile.
Web Players
- Install the Web Scrobbler browser extension for compatible browser-based players.
- Connect the extension to Last.fm.
Verify Last.fm Activity
- Play a track long enough to meet Last.fm scrobble thresholds (50% of track length or 4 minutes, whichever comes first).
- Check
last.fm/user/YOUR-USERNAMEfor recent track updates. - If it appears on Last.fm, it should appear in AudiPals shortly after refresh.
Feed Features
Once you and a friend are connected, the home feed shows what they are currently playing or recently listened to. Here is what you can do from the feed.
Reactions and voting
- Track votes: Tap the thumbs up or down on any friend track. Each person can vote once per track event; the score updates live. You can also see vote totals on your own tracks in your recent history.
- Emoji reactions: Tap the reaction button on a track to send an emoji reaction to your friend. They will see it in their notifications.
- Recommend a track: Tap the share icon on a track to recommend it to a specific friend with an optional message.
Friends
- Send a friend request: Visit a user's profile or share your profile link (
audipals.com/u/YOUR-USERNAME) to connect. Both sides must accept before you appear in each other's feeds. - Nudge: Long-press a friend in the Friends tab and choose Nudge to send them a quiet ping — a way of saying "what are you listening to?"
- Favourite a friend: Long-press a friend to mark them as a favourite. Favourited friends appear at the top of your Friends list.
- Mute a friend: Long-press a friend to mute them. Their tracks are hidden from your feed until you unmute.
- Compatibility: Visit a friend's profile to see your music compatibility percentage and shared artists.
Privacy and listening status
- Privacy mode: Tap the privacy toggle on the home screen to hide your listening activity from all friends temporarily. Your history is not deleted — just hidden until you turn it off again.
- Listening status (Premium): Set a short custom status that appears alongside your current track in friends' feeds.
Notifications
- Grouped notifications: Reactions and votes from the same friend are grouped into one summary item so your inbox stays readable.
- Auto-refresh: Notifications refresh automatically when you open the tab and every 30 seconds while it is active.
- Select and delete: Long-press any notification to enter select mode. Tap the items you want to remove, then tap Delete. Use Select All to clear your entire inbox at once.
Streaks and personality
- Listening streak: Listen every day to build your streak, shown as a badge on your profile and in friends' feeds.
- Music personality: A label generated weekly from your recent listening, shown on your profile.
Integrations
- Preferred player: In Settings, choose which app opens when you tap a friend's track — Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud, or a web search. AudiPals tries to open the app directly; if it is not installed, it falls back to a browser search.
- Discord / Slack webhook: In Settings, add a webhook URL and enable now-playing posts to send track-change updates to your server or channel. Updates are de-duplicated.

Account Settings
Manage your account details from the Settings screen (tap your profile picture, then Settings).
- Username: Tap Username to change it at any time. Usernames allow letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens. Uniqueness is checked as you type. A case-only change (e.g. james → James) does not require a new unique check.
- Email address: Tap Email to change it. You will receive a verification link at the new address; the change takes effect only after you click that link.
- Email verification: If your email is not yet verified, a prompt appears in Settings with a Resend link. A verified email is needed for account recovery.
- Password: Change your password at any time from Settings → Account.
- Notifications: Control which events send you a notification — reactions, votes, friend requests, nudges, and more.
- Preferred player: Tap to choose your music app from a list. The setting takes effect immediately on the home feed.
Troubleshooting
Scrobbles are missing in AudiPals
- Confirm they appear first on Last.fm.
- Ensure AudiPals is connected to the correct Last.fm account.
- Refresh Home and wait 1 to 2 minutes for propagation.
My third-party tool is not capturing tracks on Android
- Confirm the third-party app is running and has the required permissions.
- Check that only one scrobbler is enabled for the same music app to avoid conflicts.
- Consult the scrobbler app's own help or settings — Pano Scrobbler and Scrobble for Last.fm both have in-app troubleshooting.
A friend reacted or voted many times but I only see one notification
This is expected. AudiPals groups similar reactions and votes from the same friend into one summary item.
iOS tracks from YouTube Music do not appear
This is expected in many cases due to iOS playback visibility restrictions for third-party apps. Use a supported source path instead.
I did not receive a verification email
Check your spam or junk folder. If it is not there, open AudiPals, go to Settings, and use the Resend link next to the "Email not verified" notice. Make sure the email address on your account is correct.
Tapping a track opens a web search instead of my music app
Make sure you have set a preferred player in Settings. Also confirm the app is installed on your device — AudiPals tries to open the app first, but falls back to a web search if the app is not found.
My friend cannot see my listening activity
Check that Privacy mode is not enabled on the home screen. Also confirm you and the friend have both accepted each other's friend requests, and that your Last.fm account is connected and receiving scrobbles.
